Since their formation in the mid-1990s, the Fauns have been constantly refining their musical style, accumulating musical approaches as different as folk, rock and metal, with song structures often reminiscent of the seventies' progressive rock bands. Instruments such as twelve-string guitar, lute, recorder and flute add to the original approach in their music.
After more than sixty live gigs and several demo recordings, the band's first album LeafFall was released in November 2007, followed by a period of restructuring. Some eighteen months later, the Fauns are now returning with a new line-up and a new set of songs. Besides the founding members Jan, Nils and Falk Hartmann (guitar, drums, bass), the band now includes Kirsten Middeke (viola, flute) and Jan Hecker-Stampehl (keyboards).

After more than ten years of live gigs and demo recordings, the Fauns are now releasing their first full-length album, entitled LeafFall after the English translation of Quenya song name, “Lasselanta”. The album comprises a selection of songs from their earlier, sold-out demos, re-recorded and mastered in 2007.
Originally formed by a number of school friends, the Fauns have been constantly refining their musical style, accumulating musical approaches as different as folk, rock and metal, with song structures often reminiscent of the seventies’ progressive rock bands. Instruments such as twelve-string guitar, lute, recorder and flute add to the original approach in their music.
Despite several changes to the line-up, the core of the band has remained constant over the years: brothers Jan-Peer, Nils and Falk Hartmann (guitar, drums, bass), as well as Maja Langholz (flute and voice) have been playing music together since 1996 and have even performed as a four-piece for several years before being joined by Paul Lesný (guitar) and Stefan Ermel (keyboards) in 2001. This line-up recorded 2004’s Misty Shores EP which was reviewed favourably in music magazines like Orkus and Uncle Sally’s. After Stefan’s tragic death in 2003 the band recruited Mira Stübing as new keyboard player. This is the line-up that recorded LeafFall.
